Postoperative – Follow Up

According to the instructions of the High Authority of Health (HAS) in France, it must be very strict. Indeed, the second purpose of bariatric surgery, after weightloss, is to have a « less medicalized life as possible ».

We therefore need to know to adapt to each type of patient and intervention.

We should first monitor the pre-existing comorbidities prior to the intervention: diabetes, lipid disorders, sleep apnea, which very often are improved through the intervention, requiring an adaptation or even suppression of treatment (including hypertension).

Follow-up regularly with your doctor :

Monitoring and support of the patient after bariatric surgery must integrate the custom program established at the preoperative phase. It is provided by the multidisciplinary team who established the operative indication in cooperation with the general practitioner.

A consultation with a nutritionist or a dietician every three months and at least every six months is mandatory. Then consultations can be done with an annual frequency.
