A TAILOR-MADE TREATMENT - Editorial by Dr. Bruto Randone, ENGLISH SPEAKING General Digestive and Bariatric Surgeon

Obesity is now recognized by Health Authorities as a true metabolic pathology. In fact, poor dietary habits are no longer considered to be the sole responsible factor for obese patient's excessive weight.

Today obesity is regarded as a major medical and social problem. According to a national survey on obesity in France (ObEpi), more than 15% of the population was obese in 2012 (body mass index ≥30) and forecasts show this figure increasing to 20-25% by 2020.

Obesity is also at the origin of several pathologies related to life expectancy: type II diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, hypercholesterolemia, as well as certain cancers. Unfortunately, we know today that obesity in patients between the ages of 20 and 30 years old reduces life expectancy by 22%.

The benefits of obesity surgery, when accompanied by nutritional monitoring, are clearly demonstrated. Initially because of the weight loss but especially with regard to the long term improvement of the associated pathologies (primarily type II diabetes) so much so that nowadays, we speak less of bariatric surgery and more of metabolic surgery.

Each specialist of our center and the OBESITY SURGERY PARIS Multidisciplinary Team is able to offer a complete range of treatments within his discipline to be able to create a «tailor-made» treatment for each patient, according to his / her physical, behavioral and metabolic characteristics, independently of their BMI.

Our philosophy is to help significantly and responsibly reduce the weight of our patients to improve their associated pathologies, without changing their quality of life.
